Uses the gold-based Nisab (7.5 tola / 87.48g of 24K-equivalent gold value) and the standard 2.5% Zakat rate. This is an estimate for educational purposes — Zakat only becomes obligatory once your net wealth has remained at or above Nisab for a full lunar year. Consult a qualified Islamic scholar for your specific situation.

How Zakat on gold and wealth is calculated

Zakat becomes obligatory once your net zakatable wealth — gold, cash, savings, and other qualifying assets, minus debts due — has stayed at or above the Nisab threshold for one full lunar year. The gold-based Nisab is 7.5 tola (87.48 grams) of pure (24K) gold, valued at today's market price. Once you're at or above Nisab, Zakat is 2.5% of your total net zakatable wealth, not just the amount above the threshold.

This calculator uses the gold-based Nisab because it's the standard reference for cash and mixed-asset Zakat calculations. Some scholars use the lower silver-based Nisab instead, which means Zakat becomes due at a smaller wealth threshold — consult a qualified scholar if you're unsure which applies to your situation.

If you also hold PSX stocks, note that Zakat on shares is calculated differently depending on whether they're held for trading or long-term investment — see our Shariah screening breakdown for how compliance and purification are determined, and check today's live gold price in PKR for the rate used above.
